Getting to know dunel
-
What is dunel?
I’m a personal assistant for iPhone, an AI you tell everything once, typed, spoken or as a photo. I add events, tasks and lists, remind you when you give me a time, and later show you your own words, exactly as you said them, with the date. Everything I can do is under Features.
-
How is this different from other AI chats with memory?
Many of them remember a summary of you. I keep your actual sentences, word for word and with the date, and I never overwrite them. When you ask later, you see what you really said. And whatever is coming up, I add right away.
-
Can dunel make things up?
Not in quotes. I only show you a sentence as yours if it matches your original, character for character. If I find nothing you said about it, I don’t show you a sentence at all. My own answers can be wrong, though, as with any AI. That’s why you see your own words and can check for yourself.
-
When can I get dunel, and what does it cost?
dunel is coming to iPhone first. As soon as it’s in the App Store, you’ll find the button right here on this site. In the browser, you sign in at the top right under “Sign in”, with the same account. There are no subscriptions yet. What they will cost is set out in the terms of use.
-
Is dunel available on Android, in the browser or in English?
In the browser, yes: “Sign in” at the top right takes you there, with the same account as on your iPhone. There you type, send photos and files and bring your old chats. Recording voice messages, reminders, widgets and Face ID are only in the iPhone app. And yes, the app speaks English, as well as German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian. An Android app is on the way, with the same account.
-
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign in with Apple, with Google or with your email address. Then I tell you where your content goes and ask whether that’s okay with you. Without your yes, it doesn’t work, because for my answers, content goes to a specialized service.
Day to day
-
How do I add an event or a task?
Just tell me the way it comes to you, like “Thursday at two with Henrik about the proposal”. I add it and show you a card with what I set up, right away. Tap “Looks good” to confirm, or “not right” to take it back.
-
Does dunel remind me?
Yes, when you give me a time or something has a deadline. Before events, you hear from me 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes ahead, whichever you choose, before deadlines an hour ahead. You switch reminders on once in your profile. A notification only shows the title, never your words.
-
Can I connect my Outlook or Google calendar?
Not directly yet. But I read every calendar your iPhone knows. Add Outlook or Google once in the iPhone’s settings, then in dunel go to Profile, then Calendar and switch on “Read iPhone calendar”. Your events then show up with me under Today and Calendar. I don’t write into your Outlook or Google calendars. The guide walks you through it step by step.
-
Does dunel reach out on its own?
No. I remind you of what I added with a time. I don’t check in on my own or send you a morning summary.
-
Can I send dunel photos and files?
Yes. Photos, screenshots and PDFs, right in the chat or via Share from any app. I read what’s on them and add what’s due, like the deadline on an invoice. For that, the attachment goes to the service I use for answers, and I point that out when you send it.
-
Does dunel look things up online?
Yes. For questions about the world, like what’s on in Hamburg this Saturday, I search the web and give you the sources. Only a short search query goes out, never your notes or your chat history. I don’t let email addresses, phone or account numbers through.
-
Can I tell dunel how to answer?
Yes. Say it once, like “Always keep it short” or “No reminders before 9”. I’ll stick to it. You’ll find your rules in your profile.
Bringing your old chats
-
How do I bring my chats from ChatGPT and Claude to dunel?
In ChatGPT and Claude, you request your export in the settings and get it by email. You pick the file in dunel, and then I read, even with the app closed. It’s best to request the export once you have dunel, because the link in the email often expires quickly. The guides walk you through it step by step.
-
How much can I bring?
Up to 10,000 of your own messages per import. If your export is bigger, I take the most recent ones. You can pick several exports from ChatGPT or Claude at once.
Data and security
-
Where is my data stored?
In Frankfurt, Germany. For answers, the content needed goes to a specialized service, and processing can happen outside the EU, mainly in the US. To search your own words, a second service processes text. It’s set to the EU region, but the location isn’t guaranteed. The privacy policy names both services. More under Security.
-
Is my content used for training?
The service I use to answer you doesn’t use it for training by default. To prevent abuse, it may keep it for up to 30 days.
-
Does dunel read my email, contacts or calendar?
I don’t read your email or contacts. I see what you send me. I only see your calendar if you switch it on in your profile, and I only add to it if you want me to.
-
What happens to my voice messages?
Your iPhone writes down what you say on its own. Only the text goes out for answers. I keep both, the text and the recording, and you can listen to it again in the chat.
-
Can I take everything with me?
Yes. In your profile, you get an archive with everything, including the originals of your photos, recordings and files.
-
What happens when I delete my account?
Then I delete your messages, recordings, photos, files, notes and events from dunel, along with my answers. This can’t be undone, so take with you what you want to keep first. It isn’t gone everywhere in the same second: backups expire after 8 days at the latest, and whatever went out for an answer can stay with that service for up to 30 days.
