Export your Claude chats and bring them along
You start the export on claude.ai in a browser or in Claude on your computer, not in the phone app. There, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Export data. You’ll get an email with a link that works for 24 hours. Then pick the file in dunel, and I’ll read your conversations.
At a glance
- What you get
- A ZIP file with your conversations and your account data
- Where it works
- On claude.ai in a browser or in Claude Desktop, not in the iPhone or Android app

- What I bring in

Request your export
- 1
Open claude.ai in a browser or Claude on your computer and sign in.
The Claude app for iPhone and Android can’t run an export.
- 2
Click your initials in the lower left corner and choose Settings.
- 3
Go to the Privacy section.
- 4
Click Export data.
Download the file
- 1
Wait for the email.
It goes to the address on your Claude account.
- 2
Open the link in the email.
You need to be signed in to Claude. The link works for 24 hours.
- 3
Download the ZIP file.
On iPhone, Safari puts it in the Files app under Downloads. If you downloaded it on your computer, put it in iCloud Drive or AirDrop it to yourself, and you’ll find it in Files on your iPhone.
Pick it in dunel
- 1
In the dunel chat, tap + next to the message field and choose Bring old chats.
Or go to your profile and tap Import.
- 2
Choose Claude and tap Choose file.
- 3
Pick the ZIP file, just as it is.
You can also pick exports from ChatGPT and Claude together.
- 4
Keep dunel open until everything is prepared.
After that I keep going, even if you close the app. You can see how far along I am in the chat, right above the message field.
What I do with it
- Your sentences keep the date you wrote them.
- I read Claude’s answers as context. They never count as your words.
- I write down what I learn about you and sort it all into topics in your brain.
- When I quote you later, it’s your sentence, word for word, with its date.
- I keep attachments as originals. I can’t read them yet.
- The whole file stays intact. With Take everything with you you get it back.
To read and sort your chats, the content I need goes to the service I also use to answer you in the chat. Who gets what is explained under Security.
If something goes wrong
I can’t find the export in the Claude app.
It isn’t there. Open claude.ai in a browser or use Claude on your computer.
I use Claude through work.
On Team and Enterprise plans, only your organization’s Primary Owner can export data. Ask them.
The email doesn’t arrive.
It goes to the address on your Claude account. Claude Help says there may be a small delay while the export is created. Check your spam folder too.
The link has expired.
It works for 24 hours. Just request a new export, the same way as the first time. Then download the file right away and keep it, I’ll take it later too.
The link doesn’t open anything.
Sign in to Claude with the same account and open the link again.
dunel can’t open the ZIP file.
Then unzip it with one tap in the Files app and pick the JSON files from the folder. That works just as well.
